The Galapagos Islands provide a unique opportunity to meet wild animals in their natural habitat. You can swim with playful sea lions, relax close to Galapagos giant turtles and watch the rolling sea next to Marine Iguanas.

Over the centuries, changing ocean currents and airstreams have made it difficult for sailors to locate the islands; as a result they have become known as "the enchanted islands". Due to their remote location, the Galapagos Islands have been able to maintain their unique flora and fauna despite human interference and are today considered a unique paradise on earth where you can relax and share the company of diverse wildlife. The Galapagos Islands are one of the best places in the world to get really close to the wildlife, as most animals here have no natural enemies and behave fearlessly. Charles Darwin visited Galapagos in 1835: Deeply impressed by their unique nature, he was inspired to write his theory of evolution. By visiting the Galapagos Islands, you too may be inspired by the exclusive scenery of this untouched and unique paradise at the equator. Make time to discover the wonders of the animal and plant kingdom evolving on the Galapagos archipelago.

• July 2016: New Port Charges for Isabela Island, Galapagos

As of July 01, a new port charge of US$ 10 per person for foreign visitors applies on Isabela Island. • June 2016: Tax on cash upon departure

The Ecuadorian government has introduced a new tax - Impuesto a la Salida de Divisas or shortly ISD – of 5% on cash sums over US $ 1,098 per person, when leaving the country.
When a person (Ecuadorean or foreigner) leaves Ecuador carrying cash of up to US$ 1,098 no tax (ISD) applies. Families can travel with an allowance of US$ 1,098 for each adult plus an additional allowance of USD 366 for each child under 18 years.
Persons leaving the country carrying more cash as the permitted allowance without declaring that amount and accordingly paying the respective taxes (ISD) will be fined with 50% of the untaxed amount. Ecuadorian tax authorities (SRI) will therefore conduct controls in ports, airports and border areas.
